Platform posts generate offline chatter on JTM list

At last count, the four-part series on hyperlocal news/community platforms had generated some 40 or so comments on the Journalism That Matters Google Group of which I’m a member. The passionate conversation is prompting me to reexamine some platforms that may have been given short shrift.

I’ve been synthesizing these comments — and concerns. And as many have suggested, one size may not fit all.

And I would agree. Each proprietor (my favorite job title for an online community manager) must determine their own technological skills, their patience for tinkering in the code, their comfort with hosting and security issues and other concerns.

So give me a day or two to take the 52 pages (seriously) of comments (some are mini novels, trust me) into a series of posts.

And thanks for commenting!
